Alex attends Themis, a private school in which the teachers choose to ignore the goings-on of the student body outside of the classroom.
Alex woke up naked in Carter's room. It took a bit to realize what had happened. She was date raped. Her friends and sister convince her to seek help from The Mockingbirds, a student lead group that seeks justice for the wrongdoings of their fellow students.
